Film description

A young man, Tung, leaves the hospital after a long therapy. His career in finance was put to an abrupt end by an episode of the bipolar disorder. He comes back under the wings of his father – a truck driver, traveling between continental China and Hong Kong. The protagonists face a double challenge – rebuilding the relation between them, and facing the society, which is ruthlessly closing many doors for people with mental disorders.

Wong Chun and his screenwriter, Florence Chan, show the problem of bipolar disorder with tact and precision. Before shooting the film, they've made a detailed research and talked to a number of consultants. But this is not the only topic their film raises. It is also a story of a complicated relationship between an adult son, who needs to redefine his life and find himself a new place in the world, and his aging father, a simple man trying to understand the situation and keep Tung company in his struggle. Sharing the microscopic flat in one of Hong Kong’s apartment buildings, is not an easy task. The world of staircases, storage rooms, cellars, and chance meetings on the roof with neighbors equally roughed up by life, becomes a metaphor of a life in a modern metropolis.

The form of a psychological drama, a genre rarely chosen by the Hong Kong filmmakers, and the polished script, caught the attention of two extraordinary actors – the legendary Eric Tsang (who, so far, has played almost 140 roles), and an ex-model and pop star, Shawn Yue. This independent debut achieved quite a success, receiving a lot of attention from the critics and being praised by the industry, which resulted in eight nominations for Hong Kong Film Awards.
