People's Jury

International People's Jury at 15. Five Flavours Asian Film Festival

The idea behind the International People's Jury was simple – 12 Asian cinema fans from four European countries meet in Warsaw at Five Flavours Film Festival to watch and discuss titles of the New Asian Cinema competition section, and choose its winner. The jury deliberations are accompanied by workshops of festival and journalistic skills.

Members of the People's Jury granted the main award of the Festival and choose the winner of the New Asian Cinema section.

People's Jury was a group of people passionate about Asian films and cultures, chosen from amongst the candidates from four European countries: Finland, The Netherlands, Poland and Italy. Twelve people came to Warsaw to participate in workshops and debate the festival films together. The project was prepared by the Five Flavours Asian Film Festival in cooperation with: Udine Far East Film Festival, CAMERA JAPAN Festival, and Helsinki Cine Aasia.

Members of the 15th Five Flavours Asian Film Festival People's Jury:

  • Alberto Calabrese (Italy)
  • Sara Carotenuto (Italy)
  • Giulia Diplotti (Italy)
  • Dominika Konopielko (Poland)

  • Jenni Leppihuhta (Finland)
  • Aleksander Młyński (Poland)
  • Kinga Molińska (Poland)
  • Han Nguyen (The Netherlands)
  • Jack Underwood (The Netherlands)
  • Jakub Wanat (Poland)
  • Liisa Wang (Finland)

During an 8-day intense stay in Warsaw, Jury members had a chance to widen their film horizons, improve their writing and editing skills and participate in the dynamic festival life.

Participation in the People's Jury was a unique opportunity to get to know the Five Flavours Film Festival inside out, as well as to discover Asian culture, discuss art, politics and challenges of the contemporary world. It was also a unique chance to watch almost fifty films from East and Southeast Asia over eight days and analyse them in an international group, under the guidance of experienced mentors. As part of a morning workshops for Jury members, the festival organisers were sharing their fifteen years of experience and talking about how a modest review of Vietnamese cinema has evolved into one of the most recognisable and respected film events in Poland. There were also practical classes focusing on various aspects of preparing a film festival.
