Film description
Chaos sweeps through China. The country is torn by anxiety, the sense of the approaching danger is floating in the air. It seems that the collapse of the existing world is just one or two steps ahead. It is 1936, the Japanese invasion will soon turn the worst fears of the society into a terrifying reality.
On the eve of those events the picturesque town of Forhan becomes a place of unexpected meeting of two kung-fu masters. He comes from the South, she is from the North. Their encounter will be a clash of opposites, different traditions and philosophies. They can only be reconciled by one thing - a great affection.
Wong Kar-wai tells their story in the convention of a martial arts film, going back to the atmosphere of "Ashes of Time" (1994), and to the scale of the dazzling visual feast, in which the spectacular shots go hand in hand with a melancholic, bitter plot.
