Film description
An avant-garde Japanese film for the Asian Valentine's Day? "Wet Woman in the Wind" is a nod to the Japanese adult cinema classic and, at the same time, its subversive reinterpretation. A femme fatale in skinny jeans, an unfulfilled writer searching for solitude, a post-hippie theater company, a pinch of slapstick, and a game filled with erotic tension, governed by some pretty absurd rules.
The director references one of the most ambitious and surprising works of "pinku eiga," the popular erotic cinema that sheltered many a defiant artist in the 1960s and 1970s. He also freshens up the genre, looking critically at the stereotypical portrayals of the relationships between men and women, making fun of the conventional roles and the conventional ways of showing fits of passion. The result is a story filled with energy and surreal humor, successfully combining steaming-hot scenes with a meaningful message.
