The Sion Sono
Film description
Sion Sono takes us behind the scenes of his work and family life, which are inseparable from his art. The director, poet, painter, performer, and writer, usually quite reserved in the interviews (and often giving the journalists different versions of the same story), this time talks not only about his films, but also about other fields of his work. The story is complemented by the voices of his co-workers, actors, and his wife, who paint a colorful, yet ambiguous portrait of the author, whose 1984 debut had the meaningful title - "I am Sion Sono." We accompany him at the easel, in the kitchen, on stage, an on a trip to his family home, where he still keeps boxes full of his favorite Osamu Tezuka mangas.
The camera also follows Siono at the set of "The Whispering Star," in-between the lines showing the reality of the Japanes film industry and the situation of independent filmmakers in contemporary cinema. The author of the document is the son of Nagisa Oshima, the grandfather of Japanese avaunt-guard and Sono's role model, but also his avid fan.
