About the event
A presentation of Buddhist legends and tales prepared by Renata Koper and Bartek Sabela (Soul Travel).
There are places in the world about which one can speak using facts, events, adventures and the kilometers traveled. But there are also places which are better understood through tales, legends and myths. One of these places is Bhutan, the Himalayan Kingdom. For centuries, Bhutanese legends were only conveyed orally, since only a few of the twenty languages used in Bhutan have a written form. They have only been written down in the last few decades. Apart from their magical quality, these myths and folk tales often contain a lot of truth about the local people and the place they live in.
Renata Koper
Responsible traveler, photographer, sailor, the founder of Soul Travel – a website devoted to planning journeys deeply rooted to the local culture, both in a cognitive and a photographic sense. She led over 100 journeys to several continents, some of which were her original projects. For six years, she has been exploring the native traditions of the newly opened regions of Bhutan (Merak nomads, Tang valley). She devoted her MA thesis at the department of journalism to the life of nomadic Kyrgyz people, with whom she was living in yurts for many weeks. Her articles were published in "Kontynenty."
Bartek Sabela
Z wykształcenia architekt, a z zamiłowania malarz, fotograf, snowboardzista i przede wszystkim wspinacz. Jako pisarz debiutował w 2013 roku książką "Może (morze) wróci". Opowieść o Uzbekistanie i ginącym Morzu Aralskim została nagrodzona Bursztynowym Motylem oraz Nagrodą Magellana. Obecnie związany jest z wydawnictwem Czarne, gdzie w październiku 2015 roku ukazała się jego druga książka "Wszystkie Ziarna Piasku". Reportaż z terenów Sahary Zachodniej, ostatniej afrykańskiej kolonii został ostatnio nagrodzony przez fundację Afryka Inaczej Afrykasem 2015 i nominowany do nagrody Newsweeka im. Teresy Torańskiej. W kwietniu 2017 roku powstał kolejny reportaż "Afronauci" o pewnym Zambijczyku, który pięćdziesiąt lat temu, miał marzenie by zostać pierwszym człowiekiem na Księżycu. Regularnie współpracuje z Kontynentami oraz Dużym Formatem Gazety Wyborczej.
