Film description
Khim-Hok, an elderly man living in the mist-shrouded hills outside Taipei, is devastated when his beloved wife suddenly passes away. Lost in grief, he clings to her memory in a deeply unconventional way. When his estranged son returns after years of distance, father and son are forced to confront not only their shared sorrow but also the emotional chasm that has long separated them.
This delicate exploration of the balance between holding on and letting go is deeply influenced by the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, which finds beauty in imperfection and the transience of life. As the characters navigate their fractured relationship, the film reflects on life’s impermanence, the weight of unresolved regrets, and the quiet resilience found in moments of profound loss. The directors’ embrace of wabi-sabi infuses the film with a poignant sense of acceptance, as they capture the bittersweet process of seeking connection and closure in the face of inevitable change.
