Film description
Yong, a retired veteran, leads a peaceful life as a gardener in a small province not far from Bangkok. He looks after his bright promising future young niece, Xiang, whom he loves like a daughter, along with their loyal dog, Rambo. As Yong's life unfolds, Yong's growing awareness of his mortality begins to cast a shadow over their peaceful life. Lost in contemplation of the past, long-forgotten memories resurface, while the old clock ticks on, connecting the present to the foreseeable future.
In this second feature, Sivaroj Kongsakul's paintings continue to depict serene Thai rural landscapes, exploring the intersections of time, memories, and human relationships. With subtlety and authenticity, Regretfully at Dawn unravels life through a pastoral lens, exploring themes of love, death, and the lingering echoes of the Cold War in Thailand that continue to resonate today. This cinematic exploration captures the essence of Thailand through its history, society, and politics, creating a contemporary portrait of a country grappling with its past while embracing the complexities of the present.
