Film description

When she came to this world, Xiao Hong was very fortunate, yet, at the same time, very unlucky: she was born with incredible literary talent, but she was also a woman living in the 20s and 30s of XX century, during the 2nd Chinese Civil War. The family arranged her marriage, her husband left her pregnant. But Xiao Hong flourished in spite of that: she kept writing and found a soul mate, writer Xiao Jun. Ann Hui's latest film is a biography of the artist who, despite political expectations, writes about her inner world, automatically becoming a marginal author. It is also a colorful historical and social fresco, with Hung and other contemporary Chinese literary figures as protagonists.
