Film description
The young lovers absorb everything that Hong Kong of the 1980s has to offer. Open to experiences, they wander through its streets as if they owned them. But the city is too small for them, unable to fulfill their appetites – so they move to the beaches of local islands. As the lovers reinvent their summer of love, the specter of disaster looms in the distance.
Made with the nonchalance and courage typical of the new wave style, "Nomad" portrays the awakened sexual energy and reveals the political unrest hiding behind it. It is also a fascinating attempt to film a metropolitan space – the form tries to keep pace with the untamed youth, represented by the roles of Leslie Cheung at the brink of his great career and Cecilia Yip making her screen debut. Patrick Tam's new wave manifesto announces the arrival of a new quality in Hong Kong cinema right before the global fascination with Wong Kar Wai and John Woo.
