Film description

Hanada has two weaknesses – women and the smell of cooked rice. As a hitman, he is almost unrivaled, ranking third on the Tokyo hitmen leaderboard. But when he fails to execute his task, he becomes a target himself, which sends him into a spiral of obsession.

Seijun Suzuki's opus magnum returns six decades after its premiere. After making it, the Japanese master of B-movies was fired from the Nikkatsu studio. The reason? In the words of his employees – creating films that brought no profits and made absolutely no sense. Today, in its wonderful, newly restored 4K glory, "Branded to Kill" appears as an iconic tribute to film noir. Its erotic, melancholic shots contain a healthy serving of gangster cinema that knows how to play with the genre's premises.
