Film description

When a large, hostile creature emerges from the Han River, the residents of Seoul are gripped by fear – no one knows what it is or who it will attack. Unfortunately, young Hyun-seo, the shopkeeper's beloved daughter, is pulled into the depths of the cold water. Her not-so-successful family sets off in pursuit of the monster to save the girl. Will they be able to work together? And what can they do, faced with such a dangerous opponent?

"The Host" is a masterpiece of monster movies, a perfect combination of genre cinema with ironic political and social commentary. It is an exciting film, with dazzling visuals and a multi-layered narrative, which proves that stories about encounters between humans and monsters can still surprise us with their originality. By making "The Host", Bong Joon-ho took Korean cinema to the highest level – the special effects were made in New Zealand. The film remains the director's biggest box office success in his homeland.
