Film description
Late summer. A typhoon is approaching the coast. Every day, Ting looks towards Hong Kong from her window in Guangzhou, China. She is about to get married, but she still feels uneasy about a family secret – 20 years before, her father disappeared without trace. At her mother's request, the girl sets off to Hong Kong to put together the scattered pieces of her past. The journey brings to life the far-away nooks of her memory, including that of a certain CD recording and the lover who gave it to her.
"Borrowed Time" is one of the most important films in the slow cinema movement of recent years, and one that you have never heard of because European festivals were not interested in it. Under the mentorship of Stanley Kwan, Choy Ji creates a portrait of Hong Kong that we initially see from a distance, but gradually learn about through stories from its past. Step by step, we get closer to the city and its inhabitants, delving into the sleepy, melancholic atmosphere of a metropolis that loves the stories about broken hearts.
