Film description
Tomek and Kasia are a well-off marriage on the crossroads. Holidays on Bali, Indonesia, are supposed to be their time of exotic recreation and settling their issues, those most important ones. But recreation has a different meaning for both of them. She wants to relax in a good hotel. His 40th birthday is coming up and he is craving an adventure, a confrontation with a volcano that beat him years before. The village they find themselves in, seems like an ideal place to attack the peak. But it is a place devoid of any luxuries, inhabited by a fairly disturbing community that is preparing for a bizarre ritual…
"Agung" is a wonderful natural combination of horror and psychological drama. Ferdek slowly but surely creates the atmosphere of anxiety, which thickens all the way to the fascinating finale. Marcin Czarnik deserves special recognition – his Tomek feels that his dreams and ambitions are slipping away from him and is prepared to take grave risks to prove his manliness.
Paweł Ferdek
