Film description
Two police officers set out incognito to a remote mountain village Churuli, where a suspect who has been escaping justice for far too long is hiding. Posing as manual laborers, the officers are trying to untangle the ties in the small, mysterious community in which everyone seems to be using at least two names. But the more they learn, the further away they seem to be from the answers they seek and the way out of the village, stuck in timelessness.
The prophetic books of the Old Testament, the customs of the Indian South, the impenetrable thickets of the forest, and the bizarre lights appearing among the trees at dusk – "Labyrinth" is a surreal tale, filled with understatements, encased in memorable, magnetically beautiful frames. This should not come as a surprise – the director, Lijo Jose Pellissery, the master of Malayalam-language cinema and the creator of the unforgettable "Jalikkatu" (14th Five Flavours), is boldly developing his own, incredibly original style with every film he makes. Diving into the world he creates is an unforgettable, dangerously hypnotic experience.
The film is an adaptation of a story by Vinoy Thomas.
