Film description

She dreams of becoming a singer, but so far she is working in night clubs to pay off the gangster she owes money to. He is experiencing the ups and downs on his road to winning a MMA title. Bothe of them will do anything to finally be in the spotlight. Although they meet in very unfavorable circumstances, their journey through the unforgiving world of a brutal sport and the equally fierce celebrity rivalry will forge a bond stronger than any candlelight dinner ever could.

A romantic side of the master the dark Hong Kong action cinema? Apart from the virtuoso gangster films, beloved by audiences around the world, Johnnie To has also been making romantic comedies for the Chinese market. Permeated with local contexts and sense of humor, the films were not aimed at viewers from other regions – finding them was virtually impossible. In his newest project, presented in Poland for the first time, the director joins his two genre worlds, combining the essential elements of a touching love story and slapstick humor with a powerful form and choreographic imagination. The camera creates an equally expressive portrayal of boxing matches and music competitions, and the protagonists' challenging journey through the cities of the new Chinese reality seduces with its production panache.
