Film description
A cool spring day in Tama New Town on the outskirts of Tokyo. In Yui Kiyohara's film, the fates of several women intersect, as the unhurried narrative reveals the idiosyncrasies of a neighborhood that dates back to the 1970s and is fairly akin to the Polish blocks of flats. Here, far from the bustling center, time flows in a soothing rhythm. The image of Tama New Town created by Kiyohara reveals the ordinary face of Tokyo – a space where poetic narratives can still be found.
Memories of the past emerge from the stories of the elders settled in Tama, creating a funny, bright kaleidoscope. Far from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, in the silence of Tama New Town, stories pulled out from the nooks of memory, recreated from old photographs and recordings, filled with tiny, tender moments, create a personal account of the subtle transformations of the neighborhood. Drifting through this timeless space, you can permanently free yourself from the feeling of alienation so ubiquitous in metropolitan Tokyo.
