Film description
After a mysterious disappearance of their daughter, a young couple starts receiving disturbing recordings – someone is spying on them, secretly recording their most intimate secrets. The presence of a stalker completely disrupts the rhythm of their relationship, turning the couple into opponents. Hoping to catch the perpetrator, the police join in on the surveillance, using CCTV. The mosaic of recorded scenes turns into a portrait of a relationship that has long been burned out.
The long-awaited latest film by Yeo Siew Hua ("A Land Imagined", 12 Five Flavours) is a slow-thriller whose strength lies in languid observation, embracing the obsession with voyeurism. Dark and dense with tension, "Stranger Eyes" uses the presence of technology to pose questions about the condition of the individual and their relationships in the modern world. Yeo's ambiguous film invites you to enter an existential labyrinth, with the cult actor Lee Kang-sheng, a long-time collaborator of Tsai Ming-liang, as your guide through the space of Singapore.
