Film description
What connects speed stacking, superhero films, a couple fighting about cleaning, and the dilemmas of millenials? The answer comes from the Festival favorite, Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit and his latest film Fast & Feel Love, which proves that being an adult truly is a state of mind. The protagonist, the 30-year-old Kao, is a world champion in speed stacking – a sport consisting of stacking cups on top of each other. He has just been dumped by his girlfriend, Jay, who has long been both his assistant and his caretaker. Without her, Jay is finally forced to grow up. He may be able to set the world record in speed stacking, but he is struggling to get a grip on his life.
Only Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit could turn this story into a blockbuster filled with pop cultural references. In his first full-blooded, action-filled genre film, he masterfully navigates suspense, showing Kao’s helplessness in the face of the challenges of adulthood – cleaning, cooking, or managing the home budget. We all know that superheroes can barely get by without their inseparable assistants who usually remain in the shadow of the protagonists’ achievements. Fast & Feel Love is also an auteur, cinephilic attempt to show the everyday lives of lost millenials who refuse to grow up, but are desperately in need of love.
