Film description
The family life of Mr and Ms Yan, members of Taipei’s middle class, has long been devoid of any energy and is fueled only by routine and mutual exhaustion. Each spouse has their own way of coping with the crisis – Mr Yan is drinking away his sorrows, while Ms Yan seeks a spiritual equilibrium. Then, an unexpected phone call drastically changes the marital dynamics. A woman Mr Yan had an affair with years before is suffering from dementia and was put in a home. What will Ms Yan do when the painful memories start coming back to her?
Seven years after the brilliant Exit, the winner of the 8th Five Flavours, Chienn Hsiang once again creates a subtle portrait of mature people struggling with their emotions and the rules imposed by society. Chen Shiang-chyi, an outstanding actress known from films by Tsai Ming-liang and Edward Yang, once again meets on screen with Chen Yi-wen, her co-star from A Confucian Confusion.
