Frangipani
Film description
A story of an impossible love, composed with subtle but expressive means. Sarasi hopes that her best friend, Chamath, will save her from an arranged marriage. It all changes when another boy, Nalin, appears in their town. The mutual fascination between the men cannot come to light – by the power of the colonial law, homosexual relations are illegal in Sri Lanka. The director explores the thickening emotions between the three protagonists, not resorting to excessive dramatization – he follows the looks, the small gestures and moments, and uses them to picture the destructive consequences of renouncing the truth.
