Film description
When Kay, the granddaughter of one of the residents, arrives at the nursing home, she causes quite a stir. It is not often that anyone visits the elderly inhabitants. But the woman is not telling the truth. She is not a family member, but an investigative journalist who received a tip-off about serious irregularities at the institution that affect its ailing residents. The following investigation is frowned upon by virtually everyone – no one is truly interested in revealing the truth about the institutions created to "solve the problem" of the elderly. On top of that, Kay newspaper's investigative branch is about to be closed. Will the disillusioned protagonist, played by the magnetic Jennifer Yu, find the motivation to overcome the general apathy and expose the truth about the care system?
The contemporary Hong Kong cinema is increasingly engaged in portraying the current social issues. Lawrence Kan found the idea for the plot of his second movie in the surrounding reality. He approached the difficult, delicate subject with a journalistic rapacity, without giving up on the distinct visual aspects of the movie. He also assured the respect for the vulnerable people who, for the comfort of others, have been pushed to the margins of society.
