Due to the necessity of withdrawing the three films presented in the online program from the VOD platform, we offer you a solution to compensate for their absence. This will include special online screenings of films related to the history of Five Flavors, which have not been available online so far!
First, we take you to the lovely Kibune in the shadow of Kyoto's mountains and forests, right in the middle of a time loop that disrupts the local inn's idyllic rhythm – last year's hit from Japan, “River,” returns to the festival! Junta Yamaguchi's film is a discovery of Japanese independent cinema – despite its simple idea, it impresses with its boldness, precision, and ingenious staging. “River” guarantees sophisticated cinematic fun and a powerful load of heartful warmth – you won't want to leave Kibune!
Making its return to Five Flavors is the winner of the 9th edition – showing Japanese reality in a distorting mirror, the twisted comedy-drama “0.5mm”! At the time, the People's Jury appreciated Momoko Ando's film for its lightness of storytelling about the clash of generations and loneliness, brilliant sense of humor, but also a charismatic heroine – with a great performance by Sakura Ando!
Appearing for the first time in the online screenings is “Ripples of Life,” one of the most original Chinese films of recent years! Presented in last year's program, Wei Shujun's comedy received fantastic reviews, becoming one of the best-rated films in competition. It's a film that abounds in irony and sharp observations on the film set, brilliantly exposing the reality of film production.
The films will be available on the online platform until the end of the festival – December 1. At the same time, we note that we will do our best to ensure that the films that could not remain on the platform this year will be available online next year.
