Film description
A comedy drama about the world of cinema. A young director is working on his first big production – a remake of a classic Burmese gangster film from the 1940s. Unfortunately, the odds are not in his favor. The stars can't remember their lines, the key to the location is missing, and jumping over the budget holes seems to be the job for a seasoned gangster. Can the artistic vision win with the pragmatic expectations of the producers? And how long can the family of the ambitious artist put up with the desires of his heart?
Here, the struggles familiar to all aspiring artists gain an intriguing background of the urban landscape of contemporary Burma – the everyday life and the film set are contrasted in unexpected ways, combining realism with genre convention. On the one hand, it is the director's homage to Burmese cinema (and its never-ending struggles with the censorship), on the other – a unique portrait of Jangon, filled with the love for its vibrant streets and ironic allusions to the economic and political chaos.
