About the event
Contemporary Asian cinema increasingly explores the theme of migration, both visible and invisible, voluntary and forced, economic and emotional. The Focus: Migration section at Five Flavours offers a cinematic cross-section of various dimensions of movement - from state borders to the boundaries of identity. These are stories of homes lost and rebuilt, of longing, assimilation, and the search for one’s place in a world that itself seems ever more in motion.
Why talk about migration now? It is a phenomenon that defines the modern era, yet remains frequently simplified or ignored in public discourse. The discussion will bring together experts to talk about cinema that teaches empathy, broadens perspectives, and provokes reflection on responsibility.
The debate, held under the patronage of Czas Kultury, will be moderated by Katarzyna Czarnota, researcher and sociologist, contributor to Czas Kultury, author of the podcast series “Stan Wyjątkowy”, and researcher for institutions including the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights.
