Asian Cinerama
Appealing big-budget blockbusters and new films created by world-famed directors.
Every year we aim to indulge our audience with our favourite filmmakers who marked their presence at the festival in the previous years. For this reason, we came up with the Asian Cinerama section, where the great cinema finds its space for a grand spectacle – both in terms of quality and scale. A careful selection of renowned, award-winning talent, whose body of work is daring, unique, and equally important.
At the 16th Five Flavours, Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit will present Fast & Feel Love, his craziest film to-date, a superhero maverick on speed stacking and the liabilities of coming of age. Jun Robles Lana returns after seven years to once again take us on a journey through a dark, dangerous night in Big Night, where the pitch-black humour reflects the Filipino reality. Royston Tan does not abandon his tradition of numeral titles – in 24, he creates one of this year’s most beautiful, meditative visions on the spiritual and sonic notions of cinema that invite to listen. Joining the lineup is the first-time director Pil Gam-sung, whose Hostage: Missing Celebrity is an action film so fresh and thrilling that many of his more experienced colleagues should start thinking about retirement.
This year's Asian Cinerama section marks the return of artists whose films became the identity of our festival programme throughout the years. We showed their debuts, experiments; we followed their paths with curiosity, as we never knew where they were about to take us. This time around, the promise is there – with their extraordinary vision they will take the Polish audience for a fascinating ride through both, the imagined and real. This is because there’s a reason why their names make the hearts of world festivals' programmers flutter. And we can’t wait for November to come!
