7th Five Flavours kicks off tomorrow

The 7th edition of Five Flavours Film Festival starts tomorrow in Warsaw and lasts until 11th November. Selected titles travels later to two other Polish cities: Wroclaw (8-14th November) and Koszalin (15-17th November).

This year's programme involves 36 full lenght features as well as a selection of short and mid-length titles. While most of the films have their Polish premieres at Five Flavours, the festival also hosts the European premiere of "Hanyut/Almayer's Folly" from U-Wei Bin Haji-Saari and the world premiere of "Homostratus" from Siu Pham.

7th Five Flavours opens on 4th November at 19:00 at Warsaw's Kino Muranow with h
ighly acclaimed drama "A Simple Life" from the renowned director Ann Hui.
The director
's films marked the beginnings of the Hong Kong New Wave. She received international recognition with her films focused on important social issues as well as intimate stories. Among her best known works are "Boat People" (Tau ban no hoi, 1982), "Song of the Exile" (Ke tu qiu hen, 1990), "Night and Fog" (Tin shui wai dik ye yu mo, 2009).
Her latest title, critically acclaimed "A Simple Life" (2011) brings a story of Ah Tao, a loyal servant, who faces a decline on her health. For her role, Deanie Ip won the Best Actress Award at the
68th Venice International Film Festival.




Screenings in the other festival's cinema, Kino Luna, also start on 4th November, at 20:00, with the Polish premiere of "Drug War" from Johnnie To. One of the latest To's films has been compared by the Western critics to "French Connection" and is a proof the director's status as one of the best contemporary masters of action cinema.
