Let’s choose 10 films for the anniversary section together!

Yesterday

Dear audience! To celebrate the 20th edition of the festival, we invite you to take part in a special poll through which we will create this year’s anniversary section together. Which films from previous editions of Five Flavours would you like to see again? Or perhaps you missed some titles and have been hoping for years to finally catch up with them? Vote for your favourite films and enter the prize draw for as many as 30 prizes!

The poll runs until 15 July! Vote here

The festival began in 2007 as a modest local showcase of Vietnamese cinema entitled “Cinema in Five Flavours”. Over the years, we have steadily developed it into one of the largest Asian film festivals in Europe. A major milestone was undoubtedly the online edition held during the pandemic, which completely changed the way we thought about the festival and about reaching a wider audience of Asian cinema enthusiasts. That was when our audience quadrupled! We are not resting on our laurels — we continue to explore new directions for development and have ambitious plans and ideas for the future.

A great deal has changed over the past two decades, but one thing has remained constant: you, our wonderful, loyal and enthusiastic audience! To thank you for your continued presence and exceptional engagement, we would like to revisit the most important films in the Five Flavours canon — films that became expected or surprising hits, captured your hearts and sparked passionate discussions in cinema foyers and online. We need your help to do this.

The poll

We have selected 30 films screened at the festival during its first 14 editions. Creating this shortlist from the festival’s extensive archive was quite a challenge, but we focused on films that made a particularly strong impression on audiences, became part of the festival’s history and are now considered quintessentially Five Flavours.

We invite you to choose at least three and no more than five films from the list that you would like to see in the final top ten. In an additional field, you may also suggest one film that we omitted from the shortlist but that you believe should be added and put to a vote. Each week, we will add films that receive substantial support in your suggestions.

You can cast your votes until 15 July. We will do everything we can to include the films that receive the highest number of votes in this year’s Five Flavours programme. If licensing issues make this impossible, we will propose an attractive alternative. The final programme of the anniversary section will be announced in mid-September.

Prizes

We will draw 30 prizes among the poll participants, including five passes to the online festival, sets of Five Flavours merchandise, posters for Wong Kar Wai films, festival matcha, and books provided by Czarne Publishing House.

The anniversary section will feature approximately ten films. All of them will be available online, while some will also be included in the cinema programme of the 20th Five Flavours Film Festival.
