We are launching the 19th Five Flavours!
Japanese 80s vibes, Korean youth, migrant experiences and eclectic sci-fi. Classics, new voices, a pulsating mainstream and cinematic experiments that defy categorisation. There are no wrong choices here – the 19th edition of Five Flavours is a journey through the diversity of Asian cinema in the full spectrum of its colours, sounds and emotions. Let the five-flavour feast begin!
We have waited all year for this moment – today, the 19th Five Flavours begins! The programme features as many as 51 films and 93 screenings, 35 of which can also be watched online. This year’s edition is a cinematic kaleidoscope: from retro fantasies of the 1980s, through rebellious portraits of youth, to poetic and psychedelic visions that will take you into surprising worlds, between genres and dimensions.
The festival runs in Warsaw until 19 November, and the online edition continues until 30 November!
In line with the lunar patronage of the Wood Snake, this year’s Five Flavours will be unofficially opened by a hypnotic screening of Tsui Hark’s “Green Snake” – a sensual Hong Kong fairy tale that will immerse us in the festival’s unique atmosphere. After the screening at Muranów cinema, we invite you for Hong Kong tea prepared by Agata Chyla from Herbaciarium.
The official opening, in keeping with Five Flavours tradition, brings us contemporary cinema from Hong Kong. Adam Wong’s ”The Way We Talk”, a moving drama about the Deaf community, will launch the festival selection. After the ceremony, we invite you for refreshments prepared by Linh Nguyen, giving you a boost of energy for the film marathon. The Snake edition will close with “The Last Dance”, which broke all viewership records among Hong Kong audiences last year.
