About the event
From a screwball comedy featuring three strong-willed heroines, through a fantastical tale where the spirit world collides with spectacular kung fu, to visionary wuxia films, Tsui Hark’s body of work spans dozens of films across a wide range of genres, offering a rich trove of themes to explore.
The first retrospective of this extraordinary filmmaker in Poland is an ideal opportunity to discuss the key questions that can help us understand his place in global popular cinema. At what point in the history of Hong Kong cinema did Tsui emerge, and what did he bring to it? What inspired his successive films, and how did he satisfy his own restless drive to reinvent the ways in which films could be made? And finally, why is his name still not mentioned outside Asia in the same breath as Spielberg or Lucas?
The discussion will be held in English, with Polish interpretation.
The meeting will take place after the screening of “A Chinese Ghost Story” at 5:15 PM.
