Online Availability
At the Five Flavours Festival, a booking system is in place for screenings for holders of festival passes and on-site accreditations. We aim to prevent overcrowding and avoid queues at the entrance.
Only a booking guarantees you a seat at the screening!
The booking system is very simple and works similarly to buying single tickets – once logged into your account, just go to the page of the selected film and click "book". Detailed information can be found here:
booking rules
Please book only the screenings you plan to attend. A booking can be cancelled even at the last moment – please remember to always cancel your booking if you decide not to attend the screening. This allows other viewers to take the available seat.
Making bookings will be possible from Monday, November 9, at 12:00, for all festival days at once.
booking seats for holders of
passes and accreditations, starts:
Monday, November 9, 12:00
If you decide to attend a screening at the last minute or for some reason do not make a booking in advance, and there are still available seats in the cinema, a booking will be created “automatically” upon entry, after scanning your pass. For most screenings, seats will still be available right before the show. However, please pay special attention to screenings of films shown exclusively in cinemas – we expect the highest attendance for these.
To book a seat and enter the screening, simply use your electronic pass and show it to the ushers on your phone screen. You have received the link to your electronic pass by email. The pass can also be opened in your user profile after logging in to the festival website.

Film description
News of her father’s death forces Nisay, a young stage actress from New York, to return to her native Cambodia. In Phnom Penh, she reunites with Thida – her former lover. Their deep bond is quickly rekindled and, despite the years apart, once again fills every corner of their shared lives. Soon, however, their renewed relationship faces mounting family pressure and strict social expectations. Suspended between past and present, Whisperings of the Moon blurs the boundaries between fiction and reality, pseudo-documentary and social drama. Lai Yuqing’s feature directorial debut is an intimate romance – a moving portrait of a love fighting to survive in a world that had long written it off. Premiering at Busan and winning the Grand Jury Prize at the Slamdance Film Festival, the film explores the dilemmas of a young generation constantly questioning its choices and wondering: what if…?
Whisperings of the Moon marks the first and final film by Lai, who tragically passed away at the age of 23, just months after its premiere.
Lai Yuqing
Born in Tianjin in 2002, Lai Yuqing was a Chinese director, actress, and musician. She studied film and art in New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto, and starred in Daphne Xu’s short film Notes of a Crocodile (2024), which screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. Her work centred on themes of identity, love, and loss. Her feature directorial debut, Whispers of the Moon (featured in the 20th Five Flavours Asian Film Festival programme), premiered at the Busan International Film Festival and won the Grand Jury Prize at Slamdance. Lai died tragically in Phnom Penh in January 2026, aged 23.
