Film description
When a sacred whale figurine made of ambergris disappears from a small fishing village, panic and chaos ensue. Tam, the temple guardian, sets off for Saigon to recover the precious artefact that protects his community. Accompanied by his brother Tuan, a friend, and a childhood acquaintance, he finds himself caught in the middle of a gang war – the stolen artefact has fallen into the wrong hands. Scooter chases, spectacular skirmishes in dark alleyways, and clashes at local markets are just the beginning of the challenges they must face to reclaim the figurine and mend their relationship as brothers.
The directorial debut of Dương Minh Chiến, founder of the viral stunt team Action C, blends dynamic martial arts action with sharp comedy. Drawing inspiration from 1980s and 1990s Hong Kong classics, the film pays homage to filmmakers such as Stephen Chow and Jackie Chan. Packed with meticulously choreographed fight scenes performed without CGI, Chase for Amber brings a fresh, light-hearted energy to Vietnamese action cinema, while demonstrating the continued development of genre filmmaking in the country.
