Film description
Late at night, the body of an unidentified man is found in a snow-covered field. The only items found on him are a twenty-złoty note and a short message written in Cyrillic. Anna, a young detective, begins an investigation that soon proves more complex than it first appears. The Case of N.N. is a procedural film that examines, with cool precision, the cumbersome workings and shortcomings of the system, in which a person is reduced to an anonymous piece of evidence, pushed to the margins and ultimately forgotten. Blending the dark world of crime with the form of a video essay, the film uses the detachment of the procedural to expose not only the limitations of the investigation but also the mechanisms of institutional neglect. In a world of documents, clues and incomplete information, the attempt to piece together one person’s fate becomes a confrontation with a system incapable of recognising them as a human being.

Director’s Statement
I conceived the story of Case N.N. with the fate of a nameless corpse in mind. What happens to those who are never claimed? Are they any less human than those who have a name? Is there a place for empathy within routine checks and procedures? In the film, we follow the junior officer, Anna, as she tries to solve the case, guided by her own suspicions. But is everything really as it seems?
Chang Yu-Sung
Born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, 1992. He studied English Literature and Linguistics at the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taiwan. In 2024 he graduated from the Film and Television Department of the Łódź Film School. He currently resides in Warsaw. His student short films have been presented at both Polish and international film festivals: Młodzi i Film Festival, Riga International Film Festival, and Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival.
