Film description
Hung is a single father who works as a taxi driver in Saigon. All he wants is to get by without drawing attention to himself. Meanwhile, his critically ill daughter needs a costly, life-saving operation, and he simply cannot afford it. In desperation, he decides to take a risky step: with the help of his friends, he stages a heroic act in the hope of becoming known online as a local hero. The plan works – a sudden surge of interest from the media and internet users triggers a wave of donations to his fundraiser, offering hope that his daughter can be saved. But the publicity also prompts people to look more closely at Hung and his story. As the deception is gradually exposed, he is forced to confront the consequences of his own lie.
The feature-film debut of experienced television director Võ Thạch Thảo combines the theme of parenthood with a sharp critique of the culture of social media and viral trends. Hung is played by acclaimed Vietnamese actor Thái Hòa, who has won Best Actor awards multiple times at the Da Nang Asian Film Festival and the Golden Kite Awards.
