Film description
One day, a mysterious woman appears in the home of a happy family of four in Jakarta. She takes care of Hassan’s mother – the head of the family living somewhere in the Javanese province. The health of the older woman, Dayu, has been deteriorating and she needs help.
Even though Hassan would rather focus on his developing career in psychology, the family decides to travel to a distant corner of the country to assess the situation on the spot. But, of course, when they finally get to the village, nothing will be what it seems to… For Hassan and his loved ones, the confrontation with his past turns into a journey towards the brutal truth that was never meant to see the light of day.
In Indonesia, Soeriaatmadja is known for his subtle family portraits. This efficient, full-blooded horror, in which he focuses on the darkest aspects of the shared DNA, marks a departure from his previous style, but not from his main field of interest.
