Film description
One day Dharma, a nice, talkative owner of a small beauty parlor, discovers that his name appeared on the list of local drug addicts. This means trouble – president Duterte is waging a ruthless, country-wide war against addiction, and a wave of executions of supposedly guilty people is sweeping through the country. Who put Dharma on the list and why? And who can take him off it? The horrified young man has to act quickly – he can still save himself if he learns about the local allegiances and reaches those making decisions, diving deep into the dark world of power, corruption and money. The truth about what’s lurking under the surface of the Philippine reality will be truly astounding.
The fast-paced Big Night! is another one of Jun Robles Lana’s films in the Five Flavours program set during one long night. But while Shadow Behind the Moon shown at the 9th edition of the Festival was a thick, psychological war drama, Big Night! is a pitch-black comedy, balancing between laughter and the macabre, diagnosing the horrifying reality of the modern-day Philippines.
