Film description

A small mountain village has new inhabitants – a lama and his feisty daughter, Choeki. The girl quickly makes friends with her neighbor, the likable Norbu. The young man has an unusual friend – a yak, with whom he grew up. Choeki wants to discover the world beyond the distant mountains, but Norbu has a strong attachment to his land and to the local traditions, which will turn out to be dangerous for his beloved companion.

This simple story about the value of tradition and crucial relationships, set in a captivating Himalayan scenery, is one of the favorite films of the Bhutanese audiences, and has recently been restored. The honest, bewitching picture is an opportunity to discover the heart of the Bhutanese culture and its genuine, everyday side.

Pelden Dorji

The founder of Bhutan Film Association, the then Motion Picture Association of Bhutan. He studied film studies and cell animation in India, cinematography in Japan and still photography in Thailand and India. His first film, "Naropa" (1990) was a biography of a Buddhist saint. He made over hundred documentary films, several features and also produced a few art movies.
