The 13th edition of Five Flavours will bring an unusual collision of elements. The atmosphere of peaceful Japanese provinces will interwine with frenetic climate of Hong Kong while seemingly carefree millenials will face old Asian ghosts.
We will present almost 40 wonderful films!
Announcement of the programme
The full programme with the screenings schedule will be announced on 24 October at 6 p.m.
Programme sections 2019
During the 13th edition of the festival we will present nearly 40 feature films from East, Southeast and South Asia. This year the national section will be devoted to the cinematography of Japan: independent productions which shift focus to the peripheries and margins and raise topics far from the mainstream. Director’s retrospective returns to the programme: feel invited to meet Fruit Chan, an outstanding filmmaker from Hong Kong, who is going to present his masterpieces to the Polish audience in person.
Like in the previous years, the main axis of the festival is the competition section presenting new auteur cinema from countries such as Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, China and Thailand. Since 2017, Five Flavours teams up with Asian Film Awards Academy, the institution supporting the promotion of high quality commercial cinema from Asia. The result of this collaboration is a section made up of stunning genre cinema and the newest hits by renown filmmakers, nominated and awarded at this year’s Asian Film Awards gala.
The 13th AFF Five Flavours has the following sections:
- New Asian Cinema
- Retrospective: Fruit Chan
- Japan: Out of Focus
- Asian Cinerama – Asian Film Awards
- Polish Flavours
- Horror Section
What is known now?
We have already revealed a number of titles from this year’s programme on our website and in social media channels.
All fans of Hong Kong and its dense urban atmosphere are invited to see Fruit Chan’s retrospective. This year we show six best works of this rebellious master. Who looks for fresh cinema experience will surely find something for themselves among the titles of the competition section. Lovers of the Cherry Blossom Land must discover the first films announced in section Japan: Out of Focus. Like every year we also invite you to our distressingly popular Asian Horror Night. There will also be a unique opportunity to participate in a screening of "The Taste of Pho" as well as meet the authors of the film.
A good news to all those happy to spend whole days at screening rooms and breathe joyous festival atmosphere – this year there will be more screenings than in the previous editions. Since Thursday, 14 November, till Sunday, 17 November, the screenings start in the morning and finish late at night. During the following days the screenings also start earlier than in the past years.
An indicative screenings schedule:
It definitely is worth to reserve enough time for an Asian Cinema adventure. This year’s programme is really unique!
New! Weekend Pass
As a result of a bigger number of screenings, especially for the viewers from other cities we prepared a new solution – Weekend Pass. It costs 180 zloty and gives access to all festival screenings held in Warsaw from Friday to Sunday (15-17 November).
