Pen-ek Ratanaruang emphasizes that in his latest film, it is not worth looking for a homogeneous, cause and effect narrative line, because everything can be a fiction and everything can be true. In "Samui Song", the director leaves plenty of room for an interpretation and allows lots of self-irony and fun with genres, but only if the viewer abandons attempts to investigate facts and follows subsequent transformations, both of the main character and the narrative.
