ARRIVING TO THE CITY CENTRE

CHOPIN AIRPORT (OKĘCIE)
  • By bus: Line 175 takes you directly to the city centre (and vice versa). It passes Nowy Świat and Krakowskie Przedmieście streets and reaches The Old Town (Stare Miasto). You'll need just a single urban ticket, which you can get at a newsagent (Polish: Kiosk) in the arrivals hall or from a ticket machine at the stop and very likely also in the bus.
Remember to validate your ticket in a small yellow ticket machine in the bus.
It takes about an hour to reach The Old Town, depending on the traffic.
  • By train: Line S2 (SKM) takes you to the station Warszawa Śródmieście which is located in the city centre, close to metro-underground station Centrum as well as bus and tram stops.
Line S3 (SKM) takes you to the station Warszawa Centralna and the stop is located at the Warsaw Central Railway Station. You can easily change there for trams and buses.
You just need a single urban ticket to get to an SKM station in the city centre. You can buy it at a kiosk in the arrivals hall or from a ticket machine inside the train.
Remember also to validate your ticket in a small yellow ticket machine in the train.
It takes about 20 minutes to reach both SKM stations from the airport.
  • By taxi: The taxi stand is right outside the door of the arrivals hall. Licensed taxi cars have a roof taxi sign and the tariff is clearly displayed in the car window. Depending on a service, the route from the airport to the city centre should cost approximately 40-50 PLN.
We advise not to use services by persons asking you inside the arrivals hall if you need a taxi. They might not represent a licensed taxi company thus it is better to take a taxi outside the hall.

MODLIN AIRPORT
  • By train: You can take a suburban train directly to Warszawa Centralna station, i.e. Warsaw Central Railway Station. The trains are operated by operated by Koleje Mazowieckie. You can easily change there for trams and buses. The ticket costs 17 PLN and you can purchase it at the airport. A shuttle bus (included in the price of the train ticket) transfers passengers between the airport and Modlin train station.
  • By taxi: The taxi stand is outside the door of the arrivals hall. Licensed taxi cars have a roof taxi sign and the tariff is clearly displayed in the car window. Depending on a service, the route from the airport to the city centre should cost approximately 200 PLN.

BY TRAIN: WARSAW CENTRAL STATION

Warsaw Central Station (Polish: Dworzec Warszawa Centralna) says it all: it is located in the very centre of the city.
Once you get off your train, go to the main hall where you can find an information point as well as ticket machines for urban transport, ATMs and exchange counters (Polish: Kantor).
When you walk out of the station, you are in the city centre, and you can spot bus stops and taxis. However, to get to a tram, you need to walk underground so follow the signs on the station.

URBAN TRANSPORT

Despite endless jokes about Warsaw's modest underground (there are only two lines), the city has a very efficient system of public transport.
Trams and metro will probably be the easiest way to get around in the city centre. There is a tram stop close to each festival venue.
Mobile app Jak Dojade (literraly: How Can I Get There) or Google Maps can help you to find convenient public transport connections.

Public transport tickets (Polish: bilet ZTM) are universal and valid at all forms of public communication within the city centre (buses, trams, underground, red SKM-suburb trains).
They are available at News Agents or automatic booths located close to the underground entrance as well as bus and tram stops.

There are several types of tickets available:

  • 20 minute ticket (3.40 PLN) – entitles to unlimited number of journeys within 20 minutes from its validation
  • Single fare transfer ticket (4.40 PLN) – entitles to an unlimited number of journeys for a period not exceeding 75 minutes from its validation
  • Single fare transfer group ticket (22 PLN) – entitles to an unlimited number of journeys for a period not exceeding 75 minutes from its validation, for the group of maximum 10 people
  • 24h ticket (15 PLN) – entitles to unlimited number of journeys for 24 hours from its validation
  • Three-day ticket (36 PLN) – entitles to unlimited number of journeys for 72 hours from its validation
  • Weekend ticket (24 PLN) – entitles to unlimited number of journeys from 7:00 PM on Friday until 8:00 on Monday
  • Group weekend ticket (40 PLN) – entitles to unlimited number of journeys for a group of maximum 5 people from 7:00 PM on Friday until 8:00 on Monday

TAXIS

It is usually cheaper to order a taxi by phone than to stop it in the street.
Licensed taxi cars have a roof taxi sign and the tariff is clearly displayed in the car window.
Standard daytime rate should be about 2-3 PLN/km, but bear in mind that there is usually an additional flat starting fee (usually 6-8 PLN). Make sure that the taxi driver turns on the meter reader.
