10th Five Flavours

The 10th edition of Five Flavours Film Festival will be held from 16th to 23rd November, 2016, in Warsaw.

Five Flavours is the only annual film festival in Poland to present cinema from East, South-East and South Asia. For ten consecutive years, the Festival has brought to Poland premiere screenings of the latest and most appealing productions from the Far East as well as classic Asian films and retrospectives of renowned filmmakers.

The programme is composed of productions mostly unknown in Poland and not available in regular theatrical distribution. The previous editions saw the pioneering overviews of cinema from Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
The Festival hosted a number of prominent artists from Asia, giving the audience a unique chance to meet the outstanding filmmakers.

The ambitious repertoire and the creative atmosphere are appreciated by the community, and the Festival receives prestigious distinctions. It was nominated to Polish Film Institute awards (in the International Film Events category), and the Canadian film industry portal TWITCHFILMS placed it among the 10 best events of 2013 (alongside festivals in Cannes and Toronto).

The programme will be announced on 24th October. The full programme will be presented in Warsaw in Kino Muranow and Kinoteka cinemas in Warsaw. Screenings start on Wednesday, 16th November, and the opening event takes place on this date at the main festival venue, Kino Muranow.
From Thursday, 17th November, to Sunday, 20th November, the screenings start in the early afternoon and the last film starts about 8-9 PM. On other days the screening schedule starts about 6 PM.

The screenings are accompanied by a diverse program of additional events, including meetings with directors and other film guests, critics or exeprts, as well as debates, workshops.

This year's programme involves, among others:

  • New Asian Cinema – Five Flavours' competition section presents the best selection of the recent productions from East, South-East and South Asia. The winning titles are selected by both People's Jury - a group of cinema enthusiasts who are non-professionally or semi-professionally interested in Asian cinema as well as independent NETPAC jury.
  • Selection of best genre cinma – Asian horrors, thrillers, action, and much more.
  • Rediscovered classics – presentation of restored films little known in Poland.
  • Radio Asia - concerts and performances presenting contemporary Asian music scene.

Moreover, since Five Flavours is a member of NETPAC, the best Asian film included in this year's programme will be selected also by a NETPAC Jury.

The 10th edition continues the visual identification based on the Lunar Calendar and zodiac signs. Thus 2016 is the year of the Red Fire Monkey.
