“Monisme” by Riar Rizaldi wins the 18th Five Flavours Film Festival!
The International People's Jury verdict is in! Riar Rizaldi’s Indonesian film “Monisme” has been crowned the winner of the 18th edition of the festival. The jury also recognised Chia Chee Sum’s “Oasis of Now”. Congratulations to the winners!
Wednesday, November 20, marks the final day of the festival's on-site edition. However, the awards gala is not even the halfway mark of the 18th Five Flavours! Audiences across Poland can continue enjoying the festival programme online for 11 more days until December 1st.

The jury has decided that the Grand Prix of the 18th Five Flavours will go to “Monisme” directed by Riar Rizaldi from Indonesia. Here is the justification for the selection:
We are pleased to announce the winner of the New Asian Cinema competition of the 18th edition of the Five Flavours Film Festival. Through an avant-garde formal approach drawing on shamanism, volcanology, and ecocriticism this docufiction film explores alternative ontologies and the local myth. It deviates from conventional film form and challenges anthropocentric conceptions of our relationship with nature. The winner of this year’s New Asian Cinema competition is “Monisme” by Riar Rizaldi.

Special Mention goes to “Oasis of Now”, directed by Chia Chee Suma. It is a Malaysian-Singapore-French co-production. Jury's rationale:
For maintaining an attentive proximity that challenges its viewers and for carving the reality of the Vietnamese migrant experience in Malaysia through new poetics of space, the Special Mention goes to Oasis for Now by Chia Chee Sum.
