Red Carpet: "Geran" Team
"Geran" is an homage to the traditional martial art silat – but not just that. It is also an energetic, passionate cinematic tale of an unusual family and the love for one's own piece of land.
We will meet with the makers of the film at the Five Flavours Red Carpet to talk about the specifics of the Malay tradition of silat and the adventure of making the film.
Even though "Geran" is Areel Abu Bakar's directorial debut, he has been working in the film industry for over a decade as a cinematographer. Putting together the budget for the film took him over three years. He is also the author of the script and the cinematographer. The cast is made up of renown actors, such as Nam Ron (whom the Five Flavours audiences know from films such as "One Two Jaga” or "Bunohan"), or Faizal Hussein ("Bunohan", "Dukun"), who appears in one of the scenes, as well as first-time actors and silan practitioners, such as Feiyna Taj and Khoharullah Majid playing the siblings.
