Red Carpet: "Jallikattu" Composer Prashant Pillai
Tuesday evening brings about a meeting with the sounds of Southern India. Our Red Carpet will host Prashant Pillai, the composer of music for "Jallikattu," this year's India's Oscars submission.
"Jallikattu" is an incredibly intense journey into the lives of the tiny communities of Kerala. The film was shot in Malayam. The cinema of the region is the fourth largest Indian film centre, with its own poetics, star system, and specific regional subjects. "Jallikattu" surprises with its form and the ironic critique of the local malecentrist culture. The unique soundscape of the film was created by sound director Renganaath Ravee and composer Prashant Pillai.
Prashant Pillai
He studied sound engineering in Chennai and worked with the famous Indian composer A.R. Rahman. In 2010, he created his break-through soundtrack for "Nakayan" – Lijo Jose Pelissery's debut. He and the director have been collaborating ever since. The songs he wrote for Pellissery's film "Amen" have became hits in the region, contributing to the spectacular financial success of the production. He also worked for Hindi and Tamil-language cinema, creating music for "Shaitan" (2011), "Rockstar" (2015), "Wazir" (2016), "Andhra Mess" (2018), "Chappad Phaad Ke" (2019), and "Saajan Bakery" (2020), among others.
