Dream Home

This year's programme serves up some juicy bites of Asian films splashed with blood: "Lesson of the Evil" from Takashi Miike, "Countdown" from Nattawut Poonpiriya and "Dream Home" from Pang Ho-cheung.

Programme

Takashi Miike is well known to Polish viewers thanks to films such as "13 Assassins" (2010, Polish premiere at the 5th edition of Five Flavours FF), "Sukiyaki Western Django" (2007) and "Ichi the killer" (2001).
"Lesson of the Evil" (2012) makes the worst school nightmare come true. In his review of the flick, James Marsh from Twitchfilm.com stated that "it has been some time since Miike got his hands this dirty, and 'Lesson of the Evil' states in no uncertain terms that he's still got guts where its counts - namely, smeared all over the classroom walls."

"Countdown" (2012) is a Thai proposal on the menu. The New York-set horror-thriller is a story of three young Thais celebrating a New Year's Eve in their apartment. They call up a drug dealer, an American named Jesus – played by French-Thai actor David Asavanond – who starts playing a sadistic game with teenagers. "Countdown" was submitted as a candidate for best foreign language film at the 2014 Oscars by the National Federation of Thai Film Associations.

Countdown

Soaked with blood "Dream Home" (2010) is a proposal from Hong Kong. The film is an extreme slasher with a social commentary on the housing market crisis in Hong Kong. It portrays a young woman with only one goal in her mind – to live in an apartment where she can have a view of Victoria harbour.
The Filmmaker Magazine noted Pang Ho-cheung's film as "one of the strongest horror films of the last several years."
